Saoirse ("searsha" meaning freedom in Irish) is an 18 ft. single masted Modified Sharpie Skiff built by Kevin Moroney from a Reuel Parker design. Overall length is close to 20 feet with a drop down centerboard. Draft is 13 1/2 inches, a shallow and fast boat perfectly designed for South Florida sailing. All wood is measured and cut from lofting table dimensions in Douglas Fir and marine plywood. This model was very popular in 1890 in the Chesapeake Bay. It was used for crabbing and oystering. This modified design closely resembles the Clapham designed sharpie of the time with its dead-rise from stem to stern.
